When you want to really get after it on Florida's Nature Coast, Captain Jacob's 8-hour full day trip is where serious anglers go to make it happen. This isn't your typical half-day quickie – we're talking about a proper day on the water where you'll have time to hit multiple spots, dial in your technique, and really get into the rhythm of backcountry fishing. Starting at 8 AM from Spring Hill, you'll spend the day working the flats, backwaters, and coastal zones where the big three – redfish, snook, and spotted seatrout – call home. With everything included from tackle to licenses, all you need to bring is your enthusiasm and maybe some snacks.
Captain Jacob runs a 19-foot Kenner flats boat that's built specifically for this kind of fishing. We're talking shallow draft, quiet operation, and the ability to slip into those skinny water spots where the fish hang out. The Nature Coast backcountry is a maze of oyster bars, grass flats, and mangrove shorelines, and this boat gets you access to all of it. You'll start the morning targeting whatever's most active – could be sight-fishing redfish in knee-deep water or working the deeper grass edges for trout. The beauty of an 8-hour trip is flexibility. If the bite slows in one area, we've got time to move and find where they're feeding. Captain Jacob reads these waters like a book and adjusts the game plan based on tides, weather, and what the fish are telling us.
The Nature Coast demands versatility, and that's exactly what you'll get. We'll be sight-fishing the flats with artificials when conditions are right – think topwater plugs at first light or soft plastics worked along the edges. When the fish are holding tight to structure, we'll switch to live bait presentations that put the offering right in their face. Captain Jacob provides top-shelf tackle that's perfectly matched to these waters – medium-light spinning rigs that let you feel every nibble but have the backbone to turn a big red away from the mangroves. The boat's rigged with a Power-Pole for silent positioning, and we'll use it to hold on productive spots without spooking fish. Depending on conditions, you might find yourself casting to tailing reds in 18 inches of water or drifting grass flats for scattered trout – it's all about reading the situation and adapting.
Redfish are the backbone of Nature Coast fishing, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers typically run 18 to 30 inches in these waters, with plenty of slot-sized fish and some real bulls mixed in. Spring through fall is prime time, especially when they're up shallow feeding on the incoming tide. What makes reds special is their willingness to eat and their never-give-up attitude once hooked. You'll see them tailing in the shallows, crushing bait against oyster bars, or just cruising the edges looking for an easy meal.
Snook fishing here is seasonal but absolutely electric when they're around. These ambush predators love the mangrove shorelines and dock structures, especially during the warmer months from April through October. They're moody fish – one day they'll slam anything you throw, the next they'll follow your bait for 20 feet and turn away. When you do connect with a good snook, they'll jump, run, and generally make you earn it. The slot size runs 28 to 33 inches, and a keeper snook is always a trophy worth celebrating.
Spotted seatrout round out the big three and they're available year-round, though they really shine in the cooler months when they school up in the deeper grass beds. They're excellent table fare and willing biters, making them perfect for anglers of all skill levels. Trout in the 14 to 20-inch range are common, with some real gator trout pushing 25 inches or better lurking in the deeper holes. They're suckers for a well-presented soft plastic or a live shrimp under a popping cork.
An 8-hour trip with Captain Jacob isn't just about catching fish – it's about really understanding this fishery and coming away with skills you can use for years. You'll learn to read the water, understand how tides affect fish movement, and master techniques that work specifically on the Nature Coast. With all gear, bait, tackle, and licenses included, this is a world-class inshore fishing experience that delivers maximum time on the water. The 4-person capacity keeps it intimate and ensures everyone gets plenty of coaching and casting opportunities. Book now and get ready to experience why the Nature Coast has become a top-rated destination for serious inshore anglers.
